Should You Go for a Smartwatch or a Regular Watch? – Angela Amber's Blog About Life

Smartwatch VS Regular watch. Which one should you have? This post compares the two.

In 2021, there were roughly 202.6 million users in the smartwatch market in the world — statista

A smartwatch is a computer that is worn around the wrist in the form of a watch. Smartwatches these days provide a touchscreen interface for daily use.  Whereas an associated smartphone app provides for management and recording and transmitting of the readings of the watch.

Regular watches have been there since the 15th Century. Their primary use was to tell time. They could also be used to measure time intervals in which stuff happened for instance during experiments.

Which should you have between the Smartwatch and Regular watch

Both the smartwatch and regular watch tell time. Obviously, that is why they were made. To tell time. If they both do the same thing, which of the two should you have? Can you just pick any? Yes, you can!

But you should know what they are offering. Here are some of the comparisons between the two:

1. Durability

Regular watches are built to last longer. Whereas smartwatches do not last very long compared to regular watches. This is because smartwatches are delicate. The components inside require care while using them.

Verdict: Regular watches win this round, as they last longer than smartwatches.

2. Style

Regular watches feature a timeless style. There is attention to detail in the polishing of the case, details in the movement, and even the dial material that is not found in smartwatches.

On the other hand, smartwatches are built to be functional. This provides the wearer access to text messaging, heart rate, games, and even phone calls. They have touch screens that make all this possible and sensors on the back to detect being worn. The cases are bulky and designed to house the technology.

Verdict: Regular watches win for the second time in a row, they look more stylish compared to smartwatches.

3. Features

Regular watches tell time. That is one of their features. They can also alert you if a specific time reaches. For instance, you could set an alarm to wake you up in the morning and your regular watch will beep or ring when that time of the morning reaches.

Smartwatches, on the other hand, offer more features than regular watches. They can set alarms, tell time, monitor your heart rate, track how much you sleep, show you notifications on your smartwatch, let you make calls, etc.

Verdict: Smartwatches win this round, they offer more useful features than regular watches.

4. Updates

You can buy and wear a regular watch for years and years to come without. As long as no harm occurs on it with good care and maintenance.

With smartwatches, you get regular updates. These updates are exciting since you get to use or do something different with your watch.

Verdict: Smartwatches win this round since they get updates and regular watches do not, asides a newer model being built.

5. Price

Regular watches are priced differently. You have watches that are very cheap, and those that are very expensive. This is true for smartwatches too. There are affordable ones and those that are costly.

Verdict: This is a tie. Both smartwatches and regular watches vary in price.

Conclusion

I am a traditional person. I like regular watches. Though I have also used smartwatches. If you are to ask what I prefer between the two. I do not discriminate. Why choose one when I can have both and take turns wearing them?

People have different tastes and preferences. You could be a smartwatch person who prefers keeping fit or healthy with its features. Or you could be a simple man who prefers traditional watches. All in all, regular watches are not going away any time soon. Same with smartwatches. Choosing one depends on you.

Let us know in the comments what you prefer between the smartwatch and regular watch and reasons why you like them.
