This post compares Spotify and YouTube Music.
Spotify has over 188 million premium subscribers in the world — statista.
YouTube Premium and Music combined have more than 50 million subscribers in the world — globalmediainsight.
We all love listening to music. It relaxes us, makes us move our bodies, excites us, comforts us when we are sad, etc. We can’t spend a day without listening to music! Unless you are in a monastery.
What is YouTube Music
YouTube Music is a music streaming service created by YouTube. It is used for music streaming. What it does is let users browse through songs and music videos on YouTube based on genres, playlists, and recommendations.
YouTube Music replaced Google Play Music as the default music app that comes with Android phones. I did not like that idea at first. But eventually, I gave in, the experience was not so bad after all.
What is Spotify
Just like YouTube Music, Spotify too is a music streaming service.
You can use Spotify on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, desktop, and Android. With Spotify, you get to enjoy listening to millions of songs for free from artists all over the world.
Spotify VS YouTube Music
We now all know that they both offer music streaming services. But which of them offers better service. I have used both of them and can say they are equally good. But the differences are definitely there.
1. Their free plans
Spotify’s free plan comes with only 6 skips per hour in case you are changing the songs you do not like. There are also constant annoying ads that interrupt you as you are listening to songs. You can not even download songs for offline listening.
On the other hand, YouTube Music allows you to skip as many songs as you want per hour. And you also get to choose any song you like.
2. Finding good music
Spotify has a lot more playlists than YouTube Music. This means you get to discover more interesting songs while using Spotify than you could if you were to use YouTube Music.

3. Pricing
Spotify’s individual monthly subscription is $9.99 per month, whereas a two-user plan, costs $12.99 per month. Students pay $4.99. You can also get a family plan that supports up to six accounts for $15.99.
On the other hand, YouTube Music costs $9.99 a month for a single user. It also has a $14.99 plan that can be used by six users, making it a dollar less compared to the same plan offered by Spotify. Then there’s also a $4.99 plan for students.
4. Device compatibility
Both Spotify and YouTube Music work on all smartphone devices — Android and Apple. You get to notice the differences when you come to connected devices.
Spotify has a native app for Windows and macOS, as well as a web player. YouTube Music meanwhile, only has a web player. This implies you need to use a browser while using a PC.

Conclusion
Personally, I like using both Spotify and YouTube Music on both my Android device and Windows PC. I use whichever I am in the mood of using. Switching between the two keeps things fresh for me.
But then people like different things. Whichever the preferences, they are both good music streaming services. Let us know in the comments which of the two is your favorite.
